Recreational League

Overview

The ABGC Recreational Basketball League is a fun, inclusive, community-based basketball league for kids grades K-12 throughout Fairfax County. The program is split further into two leagues: Developmental (K-3) and House (4-12). Many of our County (Travel) players began their basketball journeys in our Recreational program.

Parents should expect to hear from their designated coach by early December when teams are formed. Practices start soon thereafter. Players may request preferred placement with coaches and/or other participants. The Recreational season runs January to mid-March.

Discounts are available for first-time players and the children of all coaches. Scholarships are also offered for those in need.

Developmental League (K - 3rd Grade)

Our youngest players enter the ABGC Recreational Basketball Program in our Developmental League. In once-weekly practices, coaches emphasize fundamental skills such as ball-handling, shooting, and basic defensive technique. All players are guaranteed equal playing time at Saturday games (9AM-3PM schedule). Practices are run in the greater Annandale area on selected weeknights from 6-7:30PM. Depending upon registration, developmental teams may be co-ed at the K-1 level.

House League (4th - 12th Grade)

Older players will enjoy more competitive basketball training and play in our House League. Unlike the Developmental League, scores and standings are maintained during the regular season. Coaches continue to stress individual skills while introducing team-based concepts such as presses and offensive and defensive frameworks. In weekend games, all players are guaranteed playing time, usually a minimum of one quarter each half. Practices are run in the greater Annandale area on selected weeknights from 7:30-9PM. High school players are welcome to sign up for the House league but can receive a full refund if they make their high school freshman, JV, or Varsity teams.
